Welcome to your Rider Refresher Training Course

IMPORTANT:

We require each student to review all the following information to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable course. It is the responsibility of each student to read through the entirety of this page before arriving on the first day of your course.

1. Bring your Licence

You are required to have and show a valid, full class 6 or 8 motorcycle licence (no learners licence) in order to participate in this course.

No Licence = NO RIDING!

Licences will be checked daily!

2. Gear Check!

VISC requires all students to wear protective riding gear while participating in our courses. Please take a minute to review and ensure your gear meets our list of minimum acceptable riding gear for our courses:

  • DOT approved Full Face, modular type, or 3/4 helmet.

  • Denim or heavy work type jacket

  • Denim jeans or a heavy canvas/cotton work pant

  • Hiking or work boot (must cover ankle bone)

  • Leather work/gardening glove or a “Mechanic” type glove

Full a full breakdown of our gear requirements, visit our Gear Requirements page.

3. Bring your Motorcycle

RRT students use their own personal motorcycles during their RRT course training.

  • All motorcycles used in our RRT course must be road legal and have valid insurance.

  • Please ensure that your motorcycle is fueled and in good operational condition and safe to ride. We suggest performing a Pre-Ride Safety Check of your motorcycle prior to attending your RRT course.

  • Our instructors will have a quick once over of everyone’s bike before starting.

  • Although very rare, a drop or tip over of your motorcycle can occur during training. An inexpensive protection option is to purchase some garden or radiator hose, slice it lengthwise and secure it using cable-ties to protect items such as crash bars, chrome pieces, etc. We also recommend removing any luggage and unnecessary accessories.

IMPORTANT: The Vancouver Island Safety Council is not responsible for any damage to student’s property (bike, gear) or person during training and is the sole responsibility of the student/owner.

5. Additional Items to Consider

  • Water/Sports drinks

  • Snack items

  • Lunch or money for lunch

  • Sunglasses

  • Appropriate clothing for the conditions (i.e. rain gear, mesh jacket)

4. Complete Online Waiver

Students are required to complete an online waiver. This can be done anytime leading up to the start of your course. We recommend that you complete the online waiver using a smartphone (as it requires your picture) and prior to Day 1 of your course.

A link to complete the online waiver will be emailed out to students one week prior to the start of their registered course.

If you are unable to complete the waiver in advance, our instructors can assist with waiver completion on Day 1 of your course.

6. When and Where?

Be sure to check your registration confirmation email for your exact course details and dates.
