Our Rider Refresher Training (RRT) is designed to teach, and refine fundamental motorcycle control techniques and skills, as well as the road safety techniques for riding in the rural, urban and highway environments.

Many motorcyclists learn to ride on their own and without the benefit of professional training from an accredited motorcycle school and an ICBC Certified Instructor.  As a result, many riders have serious gaps in their knowledge and control techniques or have gained poor habits over the years.  Any of these can increase risks to rider safety.  Many riders that have taken professional training, often do not practice the skills learned on those courses, especially on their own motorcycles.

VISC’s Rider Refresher Training sets out to teach, refresh and correct various riding techniques, while providing riders with plenty of guidance and practice.

Who is RRT for?

Our RRT course is designed for licenced class 6 riders who have some rider experience, may not have formal rider training, who may be returning to riding after some time away, perhaps are unfamiliar with your new or current motorcycle, but have a desire to advance their overall riding skills and motorcycle control skills to make you more confident and safer rider.

What will I learn?

RRT is designed to hone and refine fundamental basic control, techniques as well as strengthening your rider confidence and road sense through various fun and challenging exercises and road riding experiences.  Unlike our Novice and Traffic courses, students will use their own personal motorcycles for the duration of this course (must be road legal, licenced and insured).

RRT is taught over a weekend starting on a Friday evening with a classroom theory session that reviews what is to come during the course, as well as covering some of the basic principles of riding.  Over the following two days, students will participate in various practical training exercises on their own motorcycles both in a closed parking lot as well as a full day of riding on the roads and in various traffic situations.

* GST not included. A non-refundable surcharge of 3% will apply to all credit card payments.

RRT FAQs

What should I bring?

Bring your photo ID/Drivers Licence, your unrestricted full Class 6/8 Motorcycle licence, and all your riding gear. For cold and rainy days, please dress appropriately and bring rain gear if you have it. Dressing in layers is always a good idea to remain comfortable. Bring money for lunch as well as lots of water and snacks for breaks.

Will I drop my bike?

This is often asked, but rarely happens. Our instructors will provide instruction and guidance for each exercise, but you decide how far you want to push yourself. If you are concerned about dropping your motorcycle, we suggest wrapping any chrome or bike protection parts in sections of split garden or radiator hose, using cable ties to secure it.

Who should take an RRT course?

We strongly suggest that riders have at least 1 year of riding under their belts, as well as being comfortable and familiar with their motorcycle. We find many previous VISC graduates enrolling in our RRT so they can further develop and push their riding skills to the next level.

RRT students are also required to have valid, unrestricted full Class 6/8 Motorcycle licence (learners licences will not be permitted).

Do I have to be a VISC grad to take RRT?

No. Our RRT courses are available to all riders with a valid motorcycle licence, regardless if you have taken any previous rider training with VISC.

Does it matter what kind/style of bike I ride?

Not at all. We encourage all RRT students to ride the motorcycle they normally ride. This will ensure forming good habits and familiarization with your bike’s controls, abilities and limitations.

All RRT exercises can be ridden by all forms, sizes and styles of motorcycles as the techniques we teach will apply to all motorcycles.
