Experienced Rider Course
$275*
The VISC Experienced Rider Course (ERC) is designed to advance existing motorcycle riding skills— enhancing control techniques and emergency response skills.
The ERC is designed and delivered in part by current and retired local police motorcycle officers working with the Vancouver Island Safety Council.
In just one day, these instructors help students master a variety of low and high speed exercises, including police training patterns and techniques — all done on the student’s own motorcycle!
Who is ERC for?
All Class 6 (full licence) motorcyclists who have some experience (typically at least two years of riding). Those who are familiar with their own motorcycle, and are looking to improve control skills and knowledge. Previous rider training is recommended — but not mandatory. Students use their own motorcycles for ERC, so your ride must be road legal and fully insured.
What will you learn?
Maneuvering skills and balance techniques using various fun and challenging exercises;
Slow speed control techniques;
Learn to ride police-level cone circuits with confidence and proficiency;
Master various high and low speed drills, including emergency maneuvers, including police motorcycle training techniques;
Develop a better road sense — enabling the rider to remain in control of the motorcycle across a spectrum of situations, from simple — to more stressful.
VISC’s Experienced Rider Course will tuck vital tactical tips into your mental and physical toolbox, paving the way to understanding exactly what you — and your motorcycle — are capable of achieving on the road.

ERC FAQs
What should I bring?
Bring your photo ID/Drivers Licence, your Class 6/8 Learners Licence if you don’t already have your fill Class 6, and all your riding gear. For cold and rainy days, please dress appropriately and bring rain gear if you have it. Dressing in layers is always a good idea to remain comfortable. Bring money for lunch as well as lots of water and snacks for breaks.
Will I drop my bike?
This is often asked, but rarely happens. Our instructors will provide instruction and guidance for each exercise, but you decide how far you want to push yourself. If you are concerned about dropping your motorcycle, we suggest wrapping any chrome or bike protection parts in sections of split garden or radiator hose, using cable ties to secure it.
Who should take an ERC course?
We strongly suggest that riders have at least 1 year of riding under their belts, as well as being comfortable and familiar with their motorcycle. We find many previous VISC graduates enrolling in our ERC so they can further develop and push their riding skills to the next level.
ERC students are also required to have valid, unrestricted full Class 6/8 Motorcycle licence (learners licences will not be permitted).
Do I have to be a VISC grad to take ERC?
No. Our ERC courses are available to all riders with a valid motorcycle licence, regardless if you have taken any previous rider training with VISC.
Does it matter what kind/style of bike I ride?
Not at all. We encourage all ERC students to ride the motorcycle they normally ride. This will ensure forming good habits and familiarization with your bike’s controls, abilities and limitations. All ERC exercises can be ridden by all forms, sizes and styles of motorcycles as the techniques we teach will apply to all motorcycles.
